He is not focused enough, whereas my cousin is like a little Mother. Is it a gender thing? So interesting!

Leah - yes, every situation is different. My children are so young, I'm not at this stage yet - other than older cousins that can help out, but don't babysit alone yet.

If the older sibling shows responsible characteristics, such as doing chores and homework without being asked, understanding limits and able to control emotions, they are probably ready. Some will want the added responsibility (another readiness sign) and others will not (which is a clear indication they are not ready for it).
